United Electric Controls One Series Electronic Switch

SWME Control Systems Trading LLC  •  United Electric Controls  •  June 2025

Mechanical pressure and temperature switches have served industrial plants reliably for decades. But across UAE oil and gas, petrochemical, power, and water treatment facilities, the limitations of mechanical switches are becoming harder to ignore. Blind operation, contact corrosion, vibration-induced setpoint drift, and the need for separate gauges and transmitters add up to a significant ongoing maintenance and reliability burden.

The United Electric Controls One Series electronic switch was designed specifically to address every one of these limitations. As the authorized UAE distributor for United Electric Controls, SWME Control Systems Trading LLC supplies the full One Series range to customers across the UAE, Qatar, Oman, Kuwait, and Bahrain.

Below, we walk through 10 of the most important reasons to choose the United Electric Controls One Series UAE engineers trust for critical pressure and temperature switching applications.

1
Built-In Display — No Separate Gauge Required

Traditional mechanical pressure and temperature switches are completely blind. Operators cannot see the live process value without installing a separate gauge alongside the switch, which means additional wiring, additional process connections, additional leak paths, and additional maintenance points.

The One Series includes a large, easy to read LCD display that shows the live process value at all times. There is no requirement for an additional display gauge, which immediately reduces installed cost, reduces potential leak paths, and simplifies the instrumentation inventory at any UAE facility.

2
Patented IAW Self-Diagnostics — Know the Switch Is Working

One of the most significant risks with any mechanical switch is that it can fail silently. A corroded contact or a stuck mechanism may not be discovered until it is needed in an emergency, by which point it is already too late.

The One Series features United Electric Controls' patented IAW (I Am Working) self-diagnostics. A rotating arrow on the display continuously confirms the device is functioning correctly. If the One Series detects any internal fault, it automatically fails safe and displays a specific error code identifying exactly what has gone wrong. Operators and maintenance technicians no longer need to manually verify switch health during every inspection round.

3
Three Instruments in One Process Connection

A conventional installation requiring a pressure switch, a local pressure gauge, and a pressure transmitter requires three separate process connections, three separate impulse lines or tappings, three sets of isolation valves, and three maintenance points. Each additional process connection is a potential leak path and a potential point of failure.

The One Series transmitter-switch hybrid models (1XTXSW) combine all three functions through a single process connection. One device provides the switch output for alarm or shutdown, the local digital display for process indication, and a 4 to 20 mA HART output for the DCS or PLC. This is particularly valuable in UAE upstream and midstream oil and gas applications where process integrity and leak minimization are critical priorities.

4
10x Better Repeatability Than a Mechanical Switch

A typical mechanical switch achieves repeatability of around 1 to 2% of its calibrated span. In a high cycling application such as pump start/stop control or compressor protection, this margin of error accumulates over time and contributes to nuisance trips, premature wear, and inaccurate process control.

The One Series achieves 0.1% repeatability across all models. Additionally, a built-in Offset feature allows users to modify the displayed value in the field to account for installation specific effects, providing an extra layer of accuracy without any need for workshop recalibration.

5
Drop-In Replacement — Uses Existing 2-Wire Wiring

One of the most common barriers to upgrading from a mechanical switch to an electronic device is the cost and disruption of rewiring. New instruments often require additional power supplies, new cable runs, and changes to the PLC or DCS configuration.

The One Series 2-wire models (1XSWLL and 1XSWHL) are loop powered, operating directly from the existing discrete input of a PLC or DCS using the same two wires as the mechanical switch they replace. No new wiring, no additional power supply, no programming changes are required. This makes the One Series the most cost effective upgrade path for UAE plants looking to modernize legacy mechanical switch installations without a major capital project.

6
No Moving Parts — No Contact Corrosion, No Wear

Mechanical switch contacts corrode over time. This is especially pronounced in high humidity coastal environments common across the UAE, and in high cycling applications where contacts open and close frequently. Once contacts corrode, the switch either fails to make, fails to break, or produces unreliable switching behavior that cannot be predicted or detected without physical inspection.

The One Series uses a solid state relay (SSR) output with no physical contacts. There is nothing to corrode, nothing to wear, and nothing to stick. This makes the One Series particularly well suited to high cycling applications such as pump sequencing, compressor control, and filter differential pressure monitoring across UAE industrial facilities.

7
Nuisance Trip Filtering and Trip Delay

Pressure spikes caused by pump startup, valve closing, or compressor surges are a common cause of spurious trips at UAE industrial facilities. With a mechanical switch, the only solution is to install a mechanical dampener in the impulse line, which adds cost, adds maintenance, and can mask genuine pressure excursions.

The One Series includes programmable nuisance trip filtering and trip delay that can be configured directly from the front panel keypad. Transient spikes below a user defined duration are ignored while genuine sustained excursions are correctly detected and acted upon. This eliminates the need for mechanical dampeners and significantly reduces spurious trips in applications with noisy process conditions.

In a gas analyzer shelter application documented by United Electric Controls, the One Series achieved 6 times better accuracy than the mechanical temperature switches it replaced, while also eliminating more than 70% of the maintenance time previously required for calibration and adjustment.
8
Plug Port Detection — Guards Against Blocked Sensing Lines

A blocked impulse line or a closed isolation valve during maintenance is a silent hazard. A mechanical switch in this situation will continue to read the last trapped pressure and provide no indication that it is no longer measuring live process conditions. This creates a dangerous false sense of security, particularly in safety critical applications.

The One Series incorporates United Electric Controls' proprietary Plug Port Detection technology. If the pressure port becomes blocked or an isolation valve is closed, the One Series detects the absence of expected process response and alerts the operator through the IAW diagnostic output. This eliminates the risk of a live zero signal that could mask a genuine process hazard.

9
Min/Max Process Capture — Built-In Process History

Understanding what a process has actually experienced between maintenance visits is valuable information. Pressure excursions or temperature peaks that occur between routine checks are invisible to a mechanical switch and can only be detected through dedicated data logging equipment.

The One Series continuously captures and stores the minimum and maximum process values seen since the last reset. This information is accessible directly from the front panel display at any time. Maintenance engineers can review process extremes during routine inspections without any additional instrumentation, providing immediate insight into process behavior and helping to identify developing issues before they become failures.

10
UAE Certified — ECAS Ex Certificate for All Models

For UAE industrial projects, hazardous area certification is not optional. All One Series models hold the ECAS Ex Certificate, the Emirates Conformity Assessment Scheme certification required for electrical equipment used in hazardous areas across the UAE. In addition, all One Series models carry ATEX, IECEx, cULus, and CE certifications, covering the full range of international approvals needed for Gulf regional and global projects.

The One Series is also certified for intrinsically safe (Ex ia), flameproof (Ex d), and non-incendive (Ex nL) area classifications, giving project engineers maximum flexibility in specifying the correct protection concept for each installation.

Typical Applications in UAE Industrial Facilities

The One Series is used across a wide range of critical applications at UAE and Gulf industrial sites, including:

  • Pump and compressor protection — seal oil pressure, bearing temperature, discharge pressure
  • Turbine monitoring — lube oil pressure, exhaust temperature, trip and alarm functions
