UE 400 Series Pressure and Temperature Switch Suppliers in UAE
Every process plant needs a dependable way to raise an alarm or shut down equipment when pressure or temperature moves outside safe limits. The 400 Series Pressure and Temperature Switch from United Electric Controls (UE) does this job with a mechanical switch that works on its own, without depending on the control system.
The 400 Series Pressure and Temperature Switch is FM approved and built to NEMA 4X construction requirements. It gives you one, two, or three independent switch outputs in a single unit. It also comes with a wide choice of ranges, sensors, and process connections, so one product family covers pressure, vacuum, differential pressure, and temperature duty.
As one of the UE 400 Series suppliers in UAE, SWME Control Systems Trading LLC supplies this range across the UAE, Qatar, Oman, Kuwait, and Bahrain. This guide explains the features, model families, options, and certifications you need to know before you specify one.
What Is the 400 Series Pressure and Temperature Switch?
The 400 Series is an electromechanical pressure switch. In pressure models, a sensor such as a bellows, diaphragm, or piston moves when pressure changes. In temperature models, a bulb or immersion stem does the same job. That movement operates a microswitch at the setpoint you choose.
Because the switch is mechanical, it can operate independently of the control system. It switches reliably when called upon, and it is free from communication errors or cyber concerns. For example, a low pressure switch on a pump discharge line can trip the pump starter circuit directly, even when the PLC is offline.
Key Features of the 400 Series Pressure and Temperature Switch
Up to Three Independent Switches
Low limit and high limit alarm and safety shutdown can be handled with one, two, or three independent switches. On most models, the switches can be separated by up to 100% of range.
Simple Installation and Adjustment
The wiring compartment has ample access. You set the setpoint with a reference dial or a calibrated gauge, depending on the type you choose.
Wide Application Versatility
A variety of ranges, microswitches, sensors, and process connections lets you match the switch to the process instead of changing the process to suit the switch.
Replaces a Switch and a Gauge
In differential pressure switch applications, the optional visual indicator (option M210) lets one device do the work of both a switch and a gauge.
Rugged Enclosure
The enclosure is die cast aluminum with an epoxy powder coat, a gasket, and captive cover screws. It is built to NEMA 4X requirements and works in ambient temperatures from minus 40 to 71 °C.
Global Agency Certification
All models are FM approved. Intrinsic safety certification is available for many regions, including the UAE through ECAS.
Switch Types and Model Families
The type code tells you what the switch measures, how many switches it has, and how you adjust the setpoint. The number 400 means one SPDT switch, 402 means two, and 403 means three.
| Type | Measures | Switch Outputs | Setpoint Adjustment |
|---|---|---|---|
| J400, J402, J403 | Pressure and vacuum | One, two, or three SPDT | Internal hex screw |
| H400, H402, H403 | Pressure and vacuum | One, two, or three SPDT | Internal, with reference dial |
| J400K, J402K | Differential pressure | One or two SPDT | Internal hex screw |
| H400K, H402K | Differential pressure | One or two SPDT | Internal, with reference dial |
| B400, B402, B403 | Temperature, immersion stem | One, two, or three SPDT | Internal, with reference dial |
| C400, C402, C403 | Temperature, immersion stem | One, two, or three SPDT | Internal hex screw |
| E400, E402, E403 | Temperature, bulb and capillary | One, two, or three SPDT | Internal, with reference dial |
| F400, F402, F403 | Temperature, bulb and capillary | One, two, or three SPDT | Internal hex screw |
Pressure Ranges, Sensors, and Wetted Materials
Pressure models cover a very wide span. The lowest range starts at 0 to 2 inches of water column (model 440). The highest range reaches 500 to 6,000 psi (model 614). Each sensor style suits a different part of that span.
| Sensor Style | Models | Wetted Materials | Range Highlights |
|---|---|---|---|
| Bellows | 126 to 164 | Brass, nickel plated brass, zinc plated steel | 30 inches Hg vacuum to 200 psi |
| Welded bellows | S126B to S164B | Welded 316L SS | 30 inches Hg vacuum to 200 psi |
| Bellows | 270, 274, 358 to 376 | Phosphor bronze (270, 274) or welded 316L SS (358 to 376) | 0 to 200, 300, and 500 psi |
| Diaphragm | 440 to 454, 550 to 555, 570 to 572 | Buna N and aluminum; Teflon, Viton, and 316L SS; or 316L SS and Viton | Very low ranges up to 100 psi |
| Large diaphragm | 520 to 525, 530 to 535 | Buna N and epoxy coated aluminum (520 to 525); welded 316L SS (530 to 535) | Inches of water column, up to 250 inches |
| Piston | 610 to 614 | 303 SS and Buna N | 100 to 6,000 psi |
The piston models have an over range rating of 6,000 psi and a proof pressure of 10,000 psi. UE does not recommend them for gas service, because the O ring seal can dry out and allow the medium to bleed into the atmosphere.
Proof pressure is the maximum pressure the sensor can see without permanent damage. The unit may need recalibration afterward.
Differential Pressure and Temperature Models
Differential Pressure Switches
Types J400K, J402K, H400K, and H402K measure the pressure difference between two points. Ranges start at 1 to 7 inches of water column differential (model 540) and reach 20 to 200 psid (model 547). Models 544 to 547 handle a working pressure up to 1,200 psi and a proof pressure of 2,500 psi.
With option M210, the switch shows the differential pressure on a gasketed window. The indicator accuracy is approximately 1.5% at 50% of range and 3% at the ends. For example, a filter housing can use one device to show the pressure drop and trip an alarm when the filter needs service. Our guide to differential pressure transmitters for filter monitoring covers this use in more detail.
Temperature Switches
Immersion stem models 120 and 121 use a nickel plated brass stem. Model 120 covers 0 to 225 °F (minus 18 to 107 °C). Model 121 covers 200 to 425 °F (93 to 218 °C). A 316L stainless steel stem is available as option M504.
Bulb and capillary models suit remote installations. They have a standard 6 foot, 304 stainless steel capillary and a non toxic oil fill. The F types cover minus 125 to 650 °F (minus 87 to 343 °C) depending on the model. Typical deadband is 1% for F types and 2% of range for B, C, and E types. Temperature setpoint repeatability is plus or minus 2% of full scale.
Electrical Ratings and Switch Options
All models are rated 15 A at 125, 250, and 480 VAC as standard. For DC loads, the ratings are 2 A resistive and 1 A inductive at 24 to 30 VDC, and 0.5 A resistive and 0.03 A inductive at 125 VDC. The VDC values come from testing and experience. They are not UL rated.
| Option | Description |
|---|---|
| 0140 | 1 A gold contact at 125 VAC |
| 0500 | 5 A close deadband at 125 and 250 VAC |
| 1010 | 10 A DPDT at 125 and 250 VAC |
| 1070 | 10 A at 125 VDC |

How to Order a 400 Series Switch
Build the part number from three choices: type, model, and options. For example, a one switch pressure unit with hex screw adjustment is type J400. Pair it with model 551, a diaphragm sensor with Teflon, Viton, and 316L SS wetted parts for 0 to 80 inches of water column. Then add option M201 to have the factory set your setpoint.
To quote the right unit, we need the following details from you:
- Process fluid and its temperature
- Pressure or temperature range, and the setpoint
- Whether the switch should act on rising or falling values
- Number of switches and the electrical load
- Certification needed, such as option M463 for the UAE
The 400 Series is a mechanical switch, so it does not provide diagnostics or a digital output. If you need a continuous signal instead, read when to use a temperature switch or a transmitter. If you need those, our article on the UE One Series electronic switch covers that option. For safety loops, see the UE One Series Safety Transmitter.

400 Series Frequently Asked Questions
What is the difference between J type and H type switches?
J types use an internal hex screw to adjust the setpoint. H types use an internal adjustment with a reference dial, which makes it easier to set a value without a separate gauge.
Can the 400 Series be used in hazardous areas?
Yes, when you order the intrinsic safety option for your region. For UAE projects, that is option M463 (ECAS). Confirm your loop and barrier design for the installation.
Does the 400 Series need a power supply?
No. It is a mechanical switch, so it senses pressure or temperature without power. The contacts only carry the circuit current from your system, up to the rated values.
Is oxygen service available?
Yes, on selected models. Option M550 provides O2 service cleaning in accordance with ASTM G93. The O ring, diaphragm material, and pressure connection can change, so deadband, low end of range, and ambient limits may be affected.
